Zap! Pow! DC Entertainment Goes Digital (Again)

8 Nov 2012 - Hank Kanalz is Senior Vice President of Digital for DC Entertainment.

Last year's launch of same-day digital comics paired with DC COMICS – THE NEW 52 sent shockwaves around the comic book industry. Since then, we've experienced a 197% increase in digital comics sales, paired with a 12% increase in print comics sales.

Most would say last year's achievements are hard to top, but that's just what we set out to do with this week's announcement that DC Entertainment's monthly comic books from DC Comics and Vertigo are now available for download from the top three e-bookstores including Kindle Store, iBookstore and NOOK Store™.

Previously our digital comics were available through the DC Comics app or on the comiXology platforms. With this week's new e-bookstore launches, readers can collect their favorite digital comics on whatever device, in whatever content library they prefer. Now it's easier than ever to catch up with the edge-of-your-seat Batman "Death of the Family" storyline, or to find out exactly where Krypton is located (as described in this week's issue of ACTION COMICS #14).

Our goal is to remove barriers of entry for new readers to try a new comic by making them available in as many places as possible — comic shops, bookstores — and now on even more digital platforms. Digital isn't instant, and it's taken the team here in Burbank a long time to prep for this moment. I invite you to try any number of our offerings — I think we have a book for everyone's tastes.
