Sheila Nevins, President, HBO Documentary Films, was honored Monday evening with the 2015 Journalist Achievement Award presented by the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in New York. During her prodigious career as an executive producer or producer, she has received 28 Primetime Emmy Awards, 40 George Foster Peabody Awards, and 32 News and Documentary Emmys. Presenting the award was Joe Berlinger, producer of the acclaimed HBO documentary trilogy Paradise Lost.

In all, Nevins has supervised the production of more than 1,000 documentary programs for HBO, including the recent news-makers Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief and The Jinx, as well as the 2015 Academy Award winning documentaries Citizenfour and Crisis Hotline: Veterans Press 1.  Also honored at the event with the Distinguished Service to New York Award was former Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch, who among other achievements and contributions created a fiscal reporting programming at the journalism school.

Sarah Bartlett, Dean of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, said a highlight reel of HBO documentaries shown to attendees of the dinner was "just a glimpse into a career that has redefined the documentary field over a diverse array of topics. Thanks in large measure to Sheila’s work, the audience for strong visual storytelling keeps growing, and  our students will be in the vanguard of that movement."
