Every February, we celebrate Black History Month to celebrate the important achievements and contributions of African-Americans throughout our nation's history. This 28-day celebration spans across the company – from WarnerMedia corporate to HBO, Turner and Warner Bros.
Below is a sampling of the events that happened this month, and be sure to check out the photo gallery above for some of the other Black History Month highlights from across the company.
The entire month of February, Black Professionals at Turner, one of the company’s nine Business Resource Groups (BRGs), hosted a series of events in Atlanta and New York.
One of those events brought Civil Rights icons Rev. Jesse Jackson and two of the original Freedom Fighters, Hank Thomas and Charles Person, to the CNN Center in Atlanta to discuss their involvement in the Civil Rights movement and the importance of being an activist. Another notable event was the “Black Girl Magic” panel discussion in New York, where panelists such as TNT’s “Claws” showrunner Janine Sherman Barrois discussed the power of the black woman consumer. In addition, as employees walked into the Atlanta, Los Angeles and New York offices each day, they were greeted with digital signage featuring factoids about various black leaders.

EMERGE, HBO’s employee resource group for African-American employees, hosted a series of events and giveaways to recognize and honor Black History Month. Each day, as employees walked into the New York offices, they were greeted with digital signage featuring empowering quotes from black leaders. This focus on leadership was reinforced by a three-part web series on leadership that was offered to EMERGE members through our partnership with the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC).
Through HBO’s partnership with the American Black Film Festival (ABFF), five of the nominated short films were screened for employees, including the HBO Short Film Award-winner, “Moths & Butterflies.” All of the short films are available on HBO Now.
Warner Bros. has an internal series called “Reflections,” which is focused on diversity on and off the camera. This month, they spotlighted Daniel Ezra of “All American.”
The company’s business resource group Black Employees at Warner Bros. also sponsored “Soul Food Fridays,” featuring a curated menu of soul food-inspired cuisine in the cafeteria for employees all month long.
