DC Comics salutes ‘our heroes without capes’ overseas
As part of Batman’s 80th anniversary celebration, DC Comics joined forces with the United Service Organizations (USO) to celebrate “our heroes without capes:” the men and women serving in the military overseas.
Legendary comic artist Jim Lee, award-winning Batman writer Tom King and actresses Nafessa Williams (“Black Lighting”), Candice Patton (“The Flash”) and Danielle Panabaker (“The Flash”) toured five military bases in Kuwait – giving dozens of military units the chance to have their own “Comic-Con-like” experience.
“It was an absolute honor to meet with brave service members that exemplify real-life heroism,” said Lee. “These heroes inspire the world every day with their valor and commitment to freedom, the same courageous qualities that Batman has symbolized for eight decades.”
DC went all out – bringing together fans and talent with exclusive screenings, cosplay contests, special group panels, and even a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sit inside the “Tumbler” Batmobile. Lee also taught an art masterclass for service members interested in illustration.
