HBO’s limited series 'Our Boys' brings balance and humanity to divisive true events

If you finished “Chernobyl” and want to binge another show based on true events, look no further than HBO’s newest limited series, “Our Boys.” Debuting Aug. 12, the HBO-Keshet Studios co-production tells the true story of three Israeli teens and one Palestinian boy whose murders brought shock and chaos to the region, igniting the 2014 war in Gaza.

The riveting new drama series focuses on the investigation of Mohammed Abu Khdeir’s murder and shares the story of all parties involved, Jews and Arabs alike, whose lives were forever changed by these events.

Co-created by Hagai Levi, Joseph Cedar and Tawfik Abu Wael, “Our Boys” took on a story that is inherently divisive and brought to it balance, nuance and humanity.

“I think the show starts with dehumanization but as it proceeds, you see another option,” says Avi Nir, executive producer of “Our Boys” and CEO of Keshet Media Group. “You start to see people reaching out, you see them communicating. It’s all about the choices people make, especially in a crisis. But you have to see all 10 episodes to get it.”
